Craftastic Adventures of Fall

Published November 15, 2011 by sweetcraftastrophe
Hello,
Enjoying your Tuesday so far? Well it’s about to get a little bit cheerier because it’s time to break out the glue gun! It’s all about crafting today and enhancing that gorgeous home of yours. I know that you are all busy planning a menu for turkey day next week because you’re an amazing domestic goddess! Duh! Anyways, while your juggling a menu, cooking and guests don’t forget about fall decor! These craft ideas are super simple even for the novice crafter.

Cinnamon Candles

Cinnamon is such a quintessential scent of the season and makes your home smell just like the holidays. Well that is, if we could bottle up the scent of the holiday season but you get the point 😉
You will need:
  • 10-12 cinnamon sticks (depending on the width of your candle)
  • Candles of any size
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun or craft glue
  • Ribbon (6 in)
Take about 10 cinnamon sticks and hot glue them to the outside of your candles or you can also use any craft glue you have available.
Then take your ribbon and tie a simple bow around your new homemade candles!
Topsy-Turvy Flower Glasses
Super simple right?! I mean it doesn’t get easier than this! This is so versatile for practically any type of event/party that you are hosting. Use flowers in season from your local grocery store to complement your tablescape.
You will need:
  • votives
  • wine glasses or martini glasses
  • flowers (preferably anything in season)
First, cut off the flowers from the stems
Then just place the flower on your table, turn the glass upside down.
Finally, for the piece de resistance top your glass with a votive.

Gourd Vases

For an easy autumn display this is absolutely exquisite! Use what’s around you, nature is full of beautiful colors, patterns and shapes.

You will need:

  • Gourd
  • Flowers
  • Knife
Start off by cutting the tops of the gourds off
Then just place your lovely flowers and ta-da!
Glowing Hurricane Glasses
This is brought to you by Martha Stewart
Ah, Martha Stewart she’s always coming up with new ideas to make entertaining a little easier. This is also very versatile and you can choose whatever color palette you like to fit your needs.
This would make an interesting centerpiece in your living room, on your mantle or even in your entry way.
You will need:
  • Hurricane glasses or vases (varying in size)
  • Tape
  • Votive candle
  • Scissors

  1. Cut 4 pieces of 20-by-26-inch tissue paper in half crosswise. Lay flat on a work surface, and make a 1- to 2-inch fold on the bottom of one piece.
  2. Make a larger fold in another piece, and fit it into the fold of the first piece of paper. Repeat process with remaining pieces of paper, making some folds thinner and some wider.
  3. Wrap around hurricane glasses, and then secure with tape. Place a small votive candle in each. Be sure wick is cut short and doesn’t come in contact with the paper.
Have fun crafting and I hope you send me pictures of your fabulous crafts! I’d love to see how they turned out for you!
Have a sweet day!
xoxo,

Fall Dinner Party Part II

Published November 7, 2011 by sweetcraftastrophe
Hello there lovelies!
This past week I shared the first part of my dinner party series including the menu, the inspiration. Today, it’s all about the tablescapes, the centerpieces, and favors! Oh I LOVE favors and especially the handmade kind- they are so much more special than anything store bought.
Creating a tablescape isn’t that intimidating at all and in fact you can use whatever you have on hand. There’s no need to go buy colored linens or spend a lot of money. If you have a white/cream colored table cloth, use it! Then layer that with some orange or yellow votives down the length of the table. You can find votives anywhere and to add a special touch tie a ribbon around the votive. Try an orange candle with a light green ribbon or a red candle with a mustard yellow ribbon.

Tablescapes

This is the epitome of simple elegance! I found this on Sentimental Sublime and just fell in love with it! You don’t need to go overboard on the tablescape as long as you make some smart design choices. Instead of a tall flower arrangement like the one pictured above use a mason jar and wrap some hemp or ribbon around the jar and use flowers that are fresh in season!

Place cards

This is just another example of simplistic elegance and understated loveliness! This is actually a centerpiece for a wedding(WeddingBee Boards) but it works for a tablescape too. The colors are all in the green family but look how a monochromatic theme can really spruce up your table. Again, the mason jar centerpiece is just darling! This is definitely rustic elegance that can be easily recreated at home.
You will need
  1. Apples (Gala apples normally have stems on them)
  2. Any color cardstock of your choice
  3. Permanent marker
  4. String/ Ribbon
Directions
  1. Cut your cardstock into squares or rectangles big enough to fit a name onto
  2. Write down your guests’ names
  3. Voila! You have a unique place card
Favors

Hello Fall…so nice to see you. These favor tags are just absolute perfection for your next shindig! Your guests will love these tags as well as the goodies you put inside them. Thanks to Tipjunkie you can download the file for free! Just click on the TipJunkie link and click on the picture then scroll down to the last picture and the download link is right below it. I’m planning on using sour apple rings or hershey’s kisses as my favors. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Thanks for tuning into my Fall dinner party!
Have a sweet day!
